Position Overview
The QC Microbiology Intern will gain hands-on experience within the Biology Method Development & Validation team, learning how this group supports the broader QC Microbiology and Environmental Assurance laboratories across the facility.
The internship provides exposure to microbiological testing, quality systems, and cross-functional collaboration while contributing to meaningful quality control projects.
Purpose & Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological and bacteriological assays, including data collection, quality control, and data analysis related to assigned projects
- Train in and adhere to current GMP, safety, and laboratory practices
- Communicate project results, including unexpected findings, through a formal project completion presentation
- Collaborate cross-functionally with subject matter experts across the facility
Potential Project Areas for Microbiology Internship
Projects may include assistance with:
- Re-evaluation of Disinfectant Efficacy studies (FDA near hit)
- Validation of bioburden testing using TSA media without L&P for raw materials and intermediates
- Four-hour Surface Microbial Analysis (SMA) exposure studies
- Validation of aluminum hydroxide (AlOH) gel bioburden testing as an alternative to sterility testing
Qualifications & Education Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a four-year degree program pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (Biology preferred) as a rising junior or senior, or currently accepted into or enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program
- Minimum qualifying GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Familiarity and comfort using Microsoft Excel and Word
