Educational Requirements for the Associate Food Technologist Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
- Minimum 2+ years of relevant plant manufacturing experience, preferably in the meat processing industry
Key Responsibilities of the Associate Food Technologist:
- Assist in the development of new products and line extensions from bench-top to commercialization
- Support R&D projects through pilot plant testing and prototype development
- Conduct production trials at manufacturing plants to develop or improve products
- Document, organize, and communicate project progress through written and verbal reports
- Maintain accurate records for formulations, specifications, and project data
- Work with online formulation databases to create or modify product formulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Finance
- Support cost optimization initiatives through formulation and process improvements
- Assist with ingredient and supplier research and approvals
- Continuously enhance food science and product development knowledge, including USDA/FDA regulations
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Skills Required for the Associate Food Technologist Role:
- Strong understanding of food science, especially meat and non-meat ingredient functionality
- Hands-on experience with pilot plant and manufacturing equipment
- Proficiency in formulation databases and product development software
- Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements, and plant process systems
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently
- Proficient reading and writing skills in English
