Research Job Overview

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting a Spring 2026 R&D Drug Product Development (DPD) Co-Op within the TDS Proteins Development organization. This hands-on opportunity provides real-world experience in pharmaceutical drug product development within a cross-functional, technologically advanced R&D environment.

Each Co-Op is assigned a specific project for the six-month term and receives mentoring, coaching, and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research factors impacting formulation properties and equipment parameters
  • Learn and operate laboratory equipment (e.g., viscometers, densitometers)
  • Design and execute studies, including test fixture development (3D printing, small-scale equipment design)
  • Develop computational and statistical models using tools such as R, Minitab, or similar
  • Draft technical reports to support product filing and platform guidance
  • Analyze and interpret experimental results using analytical and statistical methods
  • Participate in weekly meetings with internal and external collaborators
  • Contribute to experimental design discussions to address knowledge gaps
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and technical documentation per guidelines
  • Provide additional project support as needed

Education

  • Preferred majors: Biomedical Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited university for the duration of the Co-Op
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s (Junior or Senior preferred), Master’s, or PhD
  • Minimum GPA: 2.8
  • Completion of the undergraduate freshman year required

Experience & Skills for Research Job

  • Required:

    • Prior process engineering experience
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
    • Ability to work independently while contributing to team goals
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
  • Preferred:

    • Experience with CFD modeling (COMSOL, Ansys), CAD, DOE/statistics
    • Programming or modeling experience (R, Python)
    • Basic laboratory skills, experimental design, and data analysis experience
    • Strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills
    • Demonstrated leadership or involvement in campus or community activities
