  • Duration: 6–8 months (January–August or May–December)
  • Work Environment: Johnsonville Technical Center – includes pilot plant, packaging lab, R&D & engineering
  • Key Tasks: Training team members, auditing, supporting HACCP/GMPs, leading projects, solving quality issues, participating in third-party audits, and cross-functional collaboration

Educational Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Food Safety, Quality, Microbiology, or a related field
  • Junior or senior status preferred
  • Minimum 2.70 overall GPA and 3.0 GPA in major coursework

Key Responsibilities of the Food Safety Intern:

  • Train new and existing team members in food safety and quality programs
  • Conduct audits to verify compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Identify, define, and solve food safety or quality issues
  • Participate in third-party audits with strong performance results
  • Lead assigned projects with minimal supervision
  • Gain hands-on exposure to HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, SOPs, and product procedures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments and support team-based goals
  • Prioritize and adjust tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Skills Required for the Food Safety Intern Role:

  • Basic understanding of food safety requirements and HACCP
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of statistical quality tools
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Detail-oriented, responsible, and self-motivated
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to travel
