Educational Requirements for the Clinical Laboratory Technologist Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or
- A non-traditional Bachelor’s degree meeting CLIA and State regulatory requirements
- MLS degree may substitute for experience
Key Responsibilities of the Clinical Laboratory Technologist:
- Determine specimen acceptability according to established criteria
- Perform routine and complex clinical microbiology testing per SOPs
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation
- Make sound technical decisions and resolve testing issues
- Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents and quality controls in the Biological Science Jobs.
- Report accurate and timely test results for patient care
- Perform and document quality control and preventive maintenance
- Maintain adequate bench supplies and assist with specimen processing
- Ensure laboratory safety and proper use of personal protective equipment
Skills Required for the Clinical Laboratory Technologist Role:
- Strong knowledge of clinical microbiology workflows and procedures
- Hands-on experience with MALDI-TOF and VITEK2 systems
- Prior microbiology experience, particularly in Parasitology (preferred)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems and computer applications
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to pass a standardized color vision test
- Flexibility to work overtime or alternate shifts as needed
