Biotechnology Internship Description

At Ferring Pharmaceuticals, the organization supports people worldwide in building families and living better lives. It operates with an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset, driven by a global team focused on scientific advancements in reproductive and women’s health, gastroenterology, and urology. The “Ferring + You” philosophy emphasizes collaboration and idea-sharing to bring science to life for patients globally.

By joining the R&D teams, the intern will experience an empowering culture and the opportunity to contribute to innovative products with life-changing potential. Collaboration occurs both internally and externally, with a focus on expanding capabilities in new therapeutics, life-cycle management, and personalized solutions. The role offers hands-on involvement in impactful scientific work.

Role Overview

As part of Ferring’s strategy to strengthen its Biologics portfolio, the intern will join the Cell Sciences team within the Ferring Biologic Innovation Center (FBIC). A key responsibility in manufacturing cell line development is demonstrating the monoclonality of the selected cell line. While clone performance is critical for commercial viability, clonality is equally essential to meet regulatory requirements.

Although advanced technologies can ensure greater than 99% clonality, supplier claims must be independently validated by the project sponsor. The intern will be responsible for assessing the monoclonality assurance of the existing process. Responsibilities include laboratory-based activities such as cell cultivation, transfection, selection, printing, and imaging. Statistical evaluation of results will be conducted to confirm process performance, with findings documented in a formal report.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform basic cell culture and work aseptically under a laminar flow hood
  • Train on state-of-the-art equipment following established protocols
  • Participate in project planning and execute assigned tasks under supervision
  • Report and present outcomes to various audiences
  • Contribute to organizing the laboratory in a lean, efficient, and smart manner
  • Maintain accountability for individual work and the working environment

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a Bachelor’s or Master’s student in Biology, Bioprocessing (Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field).

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Basic knowledge of and interest in cell line development, cell line engineering, and molecular biology
  • Comfort with aseptic techniques under a laminar flow hood and awareness of contamination prevention
  • Willingness to learn and develop professionally
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Proactive and dynamic attitude
  • Curiosity and interest in gaining experience within an industrial environment

Additional Information

  • This is a paid Biotechnology Internship with a duration of approximately 6 months.
  • The internship will be based at the Ferring Biologic Innovation Center (FBIC) in Biopole, Epalinges.
  • Start date: Between July and September 2026.
