What You Will Do

Perform microbial and chemical testing of dairy products—including milk, raw cream, condensed skim, and ice cream—as well as sensory evaluations, water testing, and component analysis. Enter test data into NAV and engage in technical communication as needed.

Key Responsibilities of Lab Technician Job

  • Conduct microbial and chemical analysis using wet chemistry or rapid-analysis equipment.
  • Perform sensory evaluations, antibiotic testing, added water and sediment testing.
  • Assist with descriptive sensory analysis, statistical analysis, and drafting technical briefs.
  • Enter data into MS Navision (NAV) or similar ERP systems.
  • Support additional laboratory tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain effective communication and working relationships across all levels.
  • Work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; SharePoint experience a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in dairy science or related field.
  • 1+ year experience in a dairy sensory or laboratory setting preferred.
  • Ability to work some weekends and holidays.
  • Strong communication, time-management, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing, climbing stairs, stooping, and bending.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Visual and hearing acuity for equipment and computer tasks.
  • Ability to climb stairs.

Working Conditions

  • Laboratory environment with shared workstations and testing equipment.
  • Quiet, temperature-controlled setting with potential exposure to chemicals and uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Typical activity distribution: 50% standing, 25% sitting, 10% walking, 10% lifting, 5% climbing.
