Microbiology Technologist Role Overview
Labcorp is seeking an experienced Microbiology Technologist to join its laboratory operations team in Phoenix, Arizona. This role is based in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and supports Labcorp’s mission of Improving Health, Improving Lives. The technologist will perform routine and complex microbiology testing while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with established laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine specimen acceptability for testing according to established criteria
- Perform routine and complex microbiology testing in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure optimal performance
- Make technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and controls
- Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Identify and replenish laboratory bench supplies as needed
- Assist with specimen processing when required
- Maintain a safe working environment and consistently use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or meeting local regulatory requirements (CLIA & State)
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience, or possession of an MLS degree
- ASCP or AMT certification preferred
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is an advantage
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to pass a standardized color vision screening
- Flexibility to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs
