Research Associate Job Summary

The Research Associate is responsible for performing experiments, organizing data, and analyzing results with minimal supervision. The individual plans, conducts, or monitors experiments, records and organizes data, analyzes findings, and generates reliable results. The role may also involve ensuring that contracted studies are conducted in compliance with established protocols and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and follow established experimental designs and protocols to perform routine studies and generate reproducible, reliable results with limited supervision
  • Plan, conduct, analyze, and document experiments, providing interpretation of data
  • Develop and implement new protocols with moderate review
  • Participate in scientific discussions with colleagues
  • Communicate data and interpretations to the work group
  • Develop systems to ensure high-quality data generation
  • Utilize standard laboratory equipment and major laboratory instruments/techniques effectively
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and experimental challenges
  • Contribute to internal and external reports, presentations, regulatory documents, invention disclosures, and/or patents
  • Participate in departmental initiatives such as safety programs, recruiting efforts, and committee work
  • Train staff and/or supervise others as needed
  • Coordinate and organize resources necessary to complete assigned tasks
  • Exercise sound judgment in determining when to seek guidance and when to make independent decisions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • Experience working in a biopharmaceutical environment
  • Experience with biocharacterization techniques such as liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis; troubleshooting experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with biologic process development
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team-focused environment
