Microbiology Job Overview

Kite is seeking a QC Microbiology Technician I to support quality control operations at our commercial cell therapy manufacturing facility in El Segundo, California. This role is responsible for microbiological testing of clinical and commercial products and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform environmental monitoring of cleanroom facilities
  • Collect water samples according to established schedules and testing timelines
  • Conduct and review microbiological assays, including:
    • Gram Stain
    • Endotoxin testing
    • Sterility testing
    • Microbial identification
    • Growth promotion testing
    • Bioburden testing
    • Plate reading
  • Perform and review visual inspections of final product
  • Enter and trend data; prepare summary slides for management
  • Assist with investigations of out-of-specification (OOS) results and manage deviations related to microbiology procedures
  • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and lab spaces
  • Review and approve final product release test results
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications For Microbiology Jobs in USA

  • Associate’s degree with 1+ year experience in a microbiology lab or environmental monitoring OR
  • High school diploma with 2+ years experience in a microbiology lab or environmental monitoring

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with environmental air monitoring, water testing, and surface monitoring
  • Experience with aseptic techniques and cleanroom operations
  • Ability to gown for aseptic core entry and lift approximately 25 lbs
  • Ability to pass a vision exam for visual inspection
  • Knowledge of GMP, SOPs, and quality control processes for commercial manufacturing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction
  • Flexibility to work overtime and adjust schedules as needed

Compensation & Benefits of Micrbiology Jobs

  • Salary Range: $55,930 – $72,380 annually
  • Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location
  • Eligible for discretionary annual bonus and stock-based incentives (role-dependent)
