Join MilliporeSigma and contribute to advancing microbiological testing that supports product development and manufacturing within Process Solutions R&D. As a Scientist II, you will help develop and validate microbial challenge and barrier performance methods that enable innovations in sterile filtration, contamination control, and microbial risk assessment.

Your Role
- Develop, validate, and implement microbiological testing methods supporting product development
- Collaborate cross-functionally on bacterial ingress and retention testing methods
- Provide expertise on microbial challenge models and barrier performance evaluation
- Author protocols, execution plans, and reports compliant with GDP
- Support new method development aligned with regulatory standards (e.g., Annex 1, ASTM F838)
- Contribute to equipment development, validation, and technology evaluations
- Support contamination control strategies, raw material qualification, and product/process changes
- Attend industry conferences and contribute to technical presentations
Physical Requirements
- Work with biological materials under BSL-2 conditions
- Perform laboratory operations, including lifting 35–40 lbs
Minimum Qualifications for Microbiology Jobs
Option 1:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field
- 3+ years laboratory experience
OR
Option 2:
- Master’s degree in the same fields
- 1+ year laboratory experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with method development and bacterial retention/ingress testing
- Knowledge of sterile filtration, contamination control, and regulatory standards (Annex 1, ASTM, PDA TRs)
- Strong data analysis, risk assessment, and technical documentation skills
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with cleanroom practices, BSL-2 labs, and digital data acquisition
- Ability to translate microbiological data into process/design insights
- Hands-on microbial challenge testing and aseptic system design experience
