The Environmental Sciences (EVS) business unit focuses on environmental and non-human factors affecting public health. Through wastewater surveillance, industrial testing, and environmental monitoring, EVS provides data-driven insights that shape policy, preventive strategies, and sustainable community health.
We are seeking a Scientist, Microbiology to support method development, validation, and verification of microbiology tests within the Microbiology Department.
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced microbiology expertise, including automated and manual techniques, antimicrobial resistance, analytical systems, and quality assurance.
- Supervise laboratory services, oversee staff training, competency assessments, and daily workflow to maintain efficiency and quality.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, UKAS accreditation, LEAN principles, and laboratory quality management systems.
- Troubleshoot technical issues, investigate incidents, monitor errors, and validate microbiology test results.
- Lead method development, validation/verification activities, report writing, and research publication; develop new microbiology processes and techniques.
- Enforce safety protocols, oversee hazardous material handling and autoclave room practices, and maintain lab safety standards.
- Collaborate across departments, chair meetings, and act as a liaison for microbiology-related activities.
- Manage QC/QA, proficiency testing, audits, KPI tracking, and drive improvements through mentoring and team collaboration.
Qualifications For Microbiology Jobs
- Education:
- MS in Biomedical Sciences with specialization in Microbiology (or equivalent).
- State registration as a Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology or related discipline.
- Experience:
- Demonstrated participation in CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
- State Registered Biomedical Scientist / Technologist in Microbiology
