Microbiology Job Role Summary

The Laboratory Technician II operates under the authority of the Laboratory Supervisor or designated lead and is responsible for the accurate, efficient, and compliant execution of laboratory testing activities. The role includes identifying deviations from quality systems and procedures, ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, AOAC ALACC, and relevant regulatory requirements, and supporting high-throughput laboratory operations while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
  • Reads, understands, and follows management system requirements, including Quality Manual, SOPs, Local Work Instructions, and Methods
  • Ensures compliance with ISO/IEC 17025/AOAC ALACC standards and relevant regulatory requirements
  • Adheres to all health, safety, and environmental regulations; assists in maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment
  • Registers incoming samples as needed and maintains accurate daily records of laboratory work
  • Enters sample data accurately and timely into the Eurofins eLIMS system
  • Performs laboratory testing on incoming samples accurately, efficiently, and within established turnaround times
  • Verifies and submits results to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
  • Identifies process difficulties and reports issues along with proposed solutions to supervisors
  • Maintains readiness to respond to client, staff, and coworker inquiries
  • Builds and maintains cooperative working relationships across departments
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with colleagues
  • Promotes the company’s image through ethical and professional business practices
  • Continuously seeks opportunities to improve quality through existing and emerging technologies
  • Identifies non-conformances and out-of-specification results
  • Performs all activities safely and efficiently
  • Completes additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment
  • Ability to handle food testing environments, including exposure to strong odors and decomposing materials
  • Ability to stand for approximately an 8-hour shift
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks consistently and accurately
  • Demonstrated reliability in attendance and punctuality

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
  • Proficiency in plate reading
  • Experience with food pathogen detection platforms such as BAX, MDS, VIDAS, BACGene, or similar systems
  • Knowledge of food pathogen confirmation procedures
