Lab Technician Job Summary
The Quality Assurance (Lab) Technician performs inspections and procedures related to Quality Assurance and Food Safety programs. The role works closely with production teams to identify and report out-of-specification products, ingredients, or conditions and collaborates cross-functionally to ensure adherence to GMPs and quality protocols defined by local, state, and federal regulations.
This position requires a highly motivated, organized individual with a willingness to learn. Occasional lifting of up to 55 lbs may be required.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Learn and retain knowledge of inspection and analytical procedures
- Contribute to special projects as assigned by the FSQ Lead
- Support the Positive Release and Hold Program
- Assist SQF Practitioner(s) with Food Safety Program reviews and SQF audit preparation
- Perform Redzone QMS inspections
- Train in and perform internal audits
- Understand and enforce facility GMPs and safety requirements
- Immediately report food safety risks or significant non-conformances to management and take corrective action
- Apply customer expectations and Food Safety & Quality standards to ensure regulatory compliance
- Assist with risk assessment, troubleshooting, and problem-solving
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by the FSQ Lead
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
Preferred Qualifications For Lab Technician Jobs
- Degree in Food Science, Biology, or Microbiology
- Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, sanitation, and production processes
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in dairy manufacturing
Language Skills
- Strong oral, listening, written, and electronic communication skills in English
- Ability to read and understand procedures and accurately record data
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to accurately calculate proportions, percentages, averages, density, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts
Working Environment for Lab Technician Job
- Food manufacturing facility with variable temperatures (cooler warehouse areas and warmer production zones)
- Exposure to moving equipment and moderate to loud noise levels
- Required use of PPE, including safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and hairnets
