About the Fellowship

The Arturo Falaschi Postdoctoral Fellowships are highly competitive awards offered by ICGEB to outstanding early-career scientists in the Life Sciences. Fellows conduct postdoctoral research in a world-class scientific environment while receiving a comprehensive support package.

Successful fellows may also apply for ICGEB Early Career Research Grants upon completion of the fellowship to support independent research programs as young Principal Investigators in ICGEB Member States.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be a national of an ICGEB Member State
• Fellowship cannot be undertaken in the applicant’s country of origin, unless the applicant has worked abroad for at least 3 consecutive years at the time of application
• Must hold a recent PhD in Life Sciences or have at least 3 years of research experience
• Preference is given to candidates under 35 years of age

Duration & Financial Support

• Duration: 2 years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension
• Monthly Stipend:
  • Trieste, Italy: €2,300
  • New Delhi, India: US$1,749
  • Cape Town, South Africa: ZAR 27,500
• Travel: One round-trip travel allowance from the fellow’s home country to the ICGEB host laboratory
• Health Insurance: Full medical coverage for the duration of the fellowship
• Research Costs: Fully covered by the host research group
• Visa Costs: Reimbursement for visa and residence permit application and renewal
• Meetings & Courses: Generally supported by the host Group Leader/PI
• Family Support: No financial or administrative support is provided for family members

Selection Process of Postdoctoral Fellowship

• Applications are forwarded to the applicant’s ICGEB Liaison Officer for endorsement (mandatory)
• Endorsed applications are reviewed by the ICGEB Fellowships Selection Committee
• Selection criteria include:
  • Scientific excellence of the research project
  • Strength and potential of the candidate’s CV
  • Expected benefit to the applicant’s home country
• All applicants will be notified of the outcome by email only
• Due to application volume, individual feedback cannot be provided

• New Delhi, India: On-campus guest house available (twin-share, nominal fee)
