Quality Assurance Job Purpose

This is an entry-level role providing essential support to the Quality Department, including microbiological testing of water, raw milk, pasteurized product, finished goods, and environmental samples. The technician is responsible for accurate data collection, reporting, and cross-department communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and prepare samples for microbiological testing
  • Perform microbial colony counts and record results accurately
  • Collect and process environmental samples
  • Operate laboratory equipment safely, including microbiological plating and pH meters
  • Prepare laboratory media and solutions required for testing
  • Complete laboratory worksheets and logs accurately and on time
  • Maintain confidentiality of laboratory results and reports
  • Communicate results professionally to appropriate personnel
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked laboratory workspace
  • Identify and report unusual test results or product defects
  • Perform retesting and verification as required
  • Immediately report equipment damage, unsafe conditions, or irregular activity
  • Follow all GMPs, GLPs, safety policies, and work procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (minimum) in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or a related field
  • Laboratory coursework and/or hands-on lab experience
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Highly motivated with a willingness to learn
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work schedule of 40–45 hours per week
  • Combination of sitting, standing, walking, and lifting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (assistance available if needed)

Food Safety Responsibilities

  • Notify supervisors of any issues affecting product quality or food safety
  • Comply with color-coded container policies in production areas
  • Ensure compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards
  • Take the initiative to prevent food safety and quality nonconformities
  • Identify, document, and report food safety or quality issues
  • Prevent further processing or shipment of nonconforming products
  • Ensure continuity of duties in case of absence through qualified coverage
