Job Description

Scripps Research is hiring a highly motivated research intern to support a project focused on RNA-ligand interactions and molecular docking. This role involves curating a database of RNA-ligand structures from the Protein Data Bank, performing molecular docking using multiple programs, and conducting comparative analysis.

This part time job is ideal for students interested in computational biology and drug discovery, offering real-world exposure to research jobs in USA.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in high school, associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s program
  • Prior experience with molecular docking or computational drug discovery (preferred)
  • Basic familiarity with Python coding (preferred)
  • Strong interest in research and biotechnology
  • Ability to work on campus and commit ~12 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn to use various molecular docking programs
  • Curate RNA-ligand structures from the Protein Data Bank
  • Visually inspect RNA-ligand PDB structures for issues
  • Perform molecular docking using different computational tools
  • Analyze predicted ligand poses using RMSD and other metrics
  • Assist with laboratory maintenance, including glassware washing and autoclaving
  • Prepare media and solutions for experiments
  • Support ongoing research projects and experimental procedures
