Research Technologist Position Overview
The Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health is seeking a full-time Research Technologist. The individual in this role performs laboratory tasks and completes routine assays by following common or established protocols and procedures.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The Research Technologist is responsible for:
- Performing clinical and/or research laboratory experiments independently or with instruction by following common protocols.
- Applying basic scientific knowledge to learn laboratory techniques and methods.
- Developing problem-solving skills through progressive training, research understanding, and experience.
- Running laboratory tests and completing measurements.
- Identifying and resolving common issues encountered in routine assays.
- Expanding skill base and knowledge of laboratory research and relevant assays.
- Training users in standard equipment operation and routine laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Setting up experiments based on defined standards.
- Collecting project data.
- Preparing, testing, and maintaining standard laboratory equipment.
- Performing laboratory maintenance, monitoring supply inventory, and cleaning equipment.
- Completing other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
Working with biohazardous materials.
Providing analytical assistance for studies including diagnostic assay development, vaccine clinical trials, and immune responses to vaccines and disease.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, or a related field.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant laboratory experience.
- Some related post-undergraduate work.
