Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in complex clinical research or development studies independently and with research teams.
  • Perform blood quality analysis using instruments such as flow cytometers, hematology analyzers, aggregometers, multi-mode plate readers, and gamma counters.
  • Conduct experiments and biological assays with a high level of independence.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental results and analyses.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and procedures; contribute to process improvements.
  • Support the development of SOPs, assay development, and validations.
  • Collaborate with scientists or project leaders on project activities, observations, and safety procedures.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments focused on blood quality and transfusion medicine.
  • Summarize and document results, perform analyses, prepare technical reports, and manuscripts for professional journals.
  • Perform radiolabeled in vivo recovery and survival experiments.
  • Participate in ongoing technical or scientific training and develop competencies within your discipline.

This position is onsite at 611 West Brambleton Ave, Norfolk, VA.

Qualifications of Research Jobs:

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent experience. A master’s degree is desirable.

Experience:

  • 1 year in a research laboratory; experience in blood banking, hematology, or transfusion medicine is desirable. Flow cytometry experience is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in laboratory methods, attention to detail, ability to recognize discrepancies, and strong documentation skills.
  • Experience in laboratory, computational, pre-clinical or clinical studies, and scientific writing is preferred.
  • Ability to work on a team, applying principles, theories, and concepts across related disciplines.
  • Some travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ordinary ambulatory skills for visiting locations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and manipulate light to medium weights (up to 20 lbs).
  • Good hand-eye coordination, dexterity, visual acuity, and overall mobility.
