Educational Requirements for the Microbiology Scientist Role:
- Master’s degree (MSc) in Biomedical Sciences, specializing in Microbiology, or related discipline
- State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist / Technologist in Microbiology
- Ongoing participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
Key Responsibilities:
- As a Microbiology Scientist, you should review and oversee method development, validation, and verification of microbiological tests.
- Apply advanced microbiology techniques, including automated and manual testing systems.
- Supervise laboratory operations, including staff training and competency assessments.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, UKAS accreditation, and laboratory quality systems.
- Investigate technical issues, incidents, and non-conformances; validate microbiology results.
- Lead QC/QA activities, proficiency testing, audits, and KPI monitoring
- Develop and implement new microbiology techniques and processes
- Prepare technical reports, contribute to research publications, and document in this Microbiology Scientist Role.
- Enforce laboratory safety protocols, hazardous material handling, and autoclave operations
- Act as a liaison between microbiology and cross-functional teams, chairing meetings when required
