Educational Requirements for the Summer Internship:

  • Must be a currently enrolled PhD student
  • Majors: Genetics, Bioinformatics, or Related computational or biological fields

Key Responsibilities:

  • At Genentech Careers, you have to engage with CBM, AIBT, and Human Genetics teams to shape a novel research program
  • Contribute to lab meetings, seminars, and cross-department scientific discussions
  • Work on sequence-to-function (S2F) DNA models for fine-mapping genetic data
  • Develop methods to project genetic risk scores into cell-type-specific gene programs
  • Support Immunology collaborations focusing on COPD and IBD
  • Build and refine ML-based tools that integrate gene expression and genetic variation
  • Deliver a robust computational codebase impacting the drug development pipeline
  • Participate in journal clubs, project meetings, and career development programs

Skills Required for the Summer Internship:

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of human genetics concepts (GWAS, population structure, fine-mapping)
  • Proficiency in Python or R
  • Experience in single-cell computational analysis and/or DNA/RNA sequence-to-function models

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Lightning)
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
