About the Research Associate Role
The Transmissible Cancer Group at the University of Cambridge is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a multidisciplinary team studying the genomics and evolution of transmissible cancers. This position is funded for 6 months in the first instance through a research grant.
Transmissible cancers are rare clonal cancer lineages that spread between individuals via the transfer of living cancer cells. These diseases, observed in dogs and Tasmanian devils, provide a unique opportunity to study long-term cancer evolution, tumour immunology, and host–cancer interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in fieldwork and biological sampling
- Analyze tumour genome and transcriptome datasets
- Annotate genetic variants and investigate mutational processes
- Perform phylogenetic analyses to reconstruct evolutionary histories
- Estimate mutation rates and infer cancer lineage origins
- Contribute original research within the project framework
Required Qualifications & SkillsÂ
- PhD in Computational Biology or a related field
- Experience with genome annotation and comparative genomics
- Knowledge of comparative cancer biology and tumour evolution
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a research team
