About the Internship
McCain is seeking a motivated Agricultural Intern to join the team for a four-month term beginning in May 2026 at the Carberry, Manitoba field location in Canada.
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience with innovative farming practices and work alongside expert agricultural teams. Interns will contribute to real-world agricultural projects and gain exposure to the full journey of McCain’s potatoes, learning how quality and sustainability drive everything we do.
During the internship, you will be exposed to:
- Grower relations
- Crop monitoring and intelligence
- Raw product alignment
- Cost of production
- Research and applied science
- Agronomy and sustainability
- Extension activities
- General operation of a commercial agriculture department
You will also gain exposure to McCain manufacturing operations and complete in-house training modules as part of the broader McCain Agriculture training program.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Intern supports the local office by researching and analyzing data to improve crop management in the area. Work is conducted under the Agronomist’s guidance and with the Department Manager’s advice.
Projects may include:
- Agriculture economics – researching and analyzing local production data and observing the process of managing local raw supply
- Agriculture production – deepening knowledge of potato production and monitoring crop status
- Agriculture research – designing, collecting, and analyzing data on projects related to sustainability and production improvement under the supervision of the company agronomist
- Sustainability – learning and contributing to McCain’s sustainability goals of reducing carbon emissions and improving regenerative agriculture practices
Additional responsibilities include:
- Promoting relations between the company and growers through periodic farm and storage visits
- Tracking and evaluating potato varieties and their performance in the factory
- Learning about Pest Management at McCain
- Assisting in developing research needed to determine best agricultural practices
- Statistical evaluation to identify best practices and data trends
- Monitoring and analyzing internal raw product inspection procedures
- Educating local growers on new field production and storage management techniques through written material, field demonstrations, tours, seminars, and workshops
- Assisting in collecting and analyzing the grower field and/or bin sampling program
- Analyzing cost of production
Who Can Apply for an Agriculture Internship?
- College Junior/Senior majoring in Ag Science or a closely related discipline
- Knowledge of farm practices and vegetable production is desirable but not necessary
- Research and Lab experience is desirable but not necessary
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
- Basic to Intermediate skills in word processing, spreadsheet, data management, and presentation preparations
- Statistical computer applications are preferred
- Communication skills – able to speak effectively to individuals and groups and make short presentations in group settings
- Familiar with video conferencing
- Ability to write routine correspondence and reports for a variety of audiences
- A valid driver’s license and comfortable flying/driving long distances
- Ability to work outside in different weather conditions and temperatures
- Occasionally requires substantial physical effort and working in awkward positions
Compensation
$23.00 – $26.00 CAD hourly wage equivalent (paid salary)
Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education, training, and other organizational needs.
Due to the duration of this role, traditional benefits through McCain programs are not included. However, McCain’s early careers programming offers multiple learning experiences aimed at advancing your future career.
