Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological field (e.g., Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, etc.) and four years of relevant professional experience OR
  • Master’s degree in a biological field and two years of relevant professional experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess the veracity of clinically reportable variants (SNVs and CNVs) in NGS or WGS data flagged for manual intervention in this Bioinformatics Job at Labcorp Careers
  • In this Remote Job, you should evaluate confirmatory assay results that corroborate or refute primary assay findings
  • Make final reporting decisions that directly impact patient results
  • As a Bioinformatics Scientist, you should monitor and troubleshoot quality control anomalies in NGS, WGS, and confirmatory assays in this Remote Job
  • Investigate unique genetic or genomic signals in production data at Labcorp Careers
  • Triage stuck samples, variants, and reports
  • Support production duties, including cross-team requests and on-call shifts, in this Bioinformatics Job
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with bioinformatics, automation, engineering, laboratory scientists, clinical genomics teams, and research scientists

Skills Required:

  • Strong knowledge of genetics
  • Experience with NGS data analysis (academic or industry)
  • Familiarity with IGV or other genome browsers
  • Knowledge of NGS alignment, variant calling, and visualization tools
  • Familiarity with:
    • Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
    • Programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL
    • Version control systems like Git or GitHub
    • Project management tools (Jira, Asana, Monday, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work extended periods on a computer screen
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with NGS wet lab protocols, preferably in a production environment
