Food Science Job Role Summary
The Quality Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, grading, sorting, sampling, weighing, and conducting sensory testing and assays on products, materials, and components at various stages of the production process. The role also involves managing inbound and finished product hold and release criteria, including CoA verification, label verification, sensory programs, and internal and external physical-chemical and microbiological testing.
The individual will ensure compliance with Critical Control Points (CCP) and Preventive Controls (PC), perform internal audits, record and analyse statistical and production data, and identify deviations from established standards. The role also includes monitoring production activities to ensure adherence to quality standards, GMP, and food safety requirements while promoting company policies and best practices.
Main Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming materials (ingredients and packaging) and finished products to ensure compliance with quality specifications established by the Ferrero Quality Department (FQD).
- Perform data entry in SAP-QM systems, review quality reports, and ensure alignment with quality specifications.
- Request and verify process adjustments where necessary.
- Conduct sensory evaluations for semi-finished and finished products.
- Manage product holds, escalate non-conformities, and support root cause analysis along with corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide information on final disposition for held products.
- Maintain accurate records by entering, transcribing, storing, and managing data in written or electronic formats.
- Issue, distribute, and maintain updated quality instructions and related documentation for production lines.
- Communicate proactively with co-workers, supervisors, and leadership on quality and food safety topics, including process changes, specifications, and potential issues.
- Plan, organize, and deliver training for auto-control employees and external personnel on quality control processes.
- Support operators to ensure proper implementation of auto-control activities on production lines.
Candidate Profile For Food Science Job
Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field, with 1–3 years of relevant work experience.
Required Experience and Skills
- Knowledge of production processes, ingredients, packaging materials, quality control, and food safety standards.
- Experience in conducting quality control analysis through testing and inspection of products, materials, and processes.
- Ability to monitor operations and interpret gauges, dials, and indicators to identify quality issues.
- Competence in mathematical and statistical analysis for data evaluation and trend analysis.
- Understanding of industry-related documentation.
