Educational Requirements for the Lab Technician Role:
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical discipline (chemical, biological, clinical lab science, medical technology)
- Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
- 1 year of laboratory training or experience
- MT or MLT certification (ASCP or equivalent)
Key Responsibilities of the Lab Technician:
- Perform authorized high and moderate complexity laboratory tests per SOPs
- Ensure compliance with GMP, CLIA, CFRs, and Takeda/BioLife quality standards
- Manage samples, perform testing, review results, and report findings accurately
- Maintain laboratory equipment, calibration records, and maintenance logs
- Follow specimen handling, processing, and documentation procedures
- Conduct and document quality control and proficiency testing
- Identify testing deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping)
- Maintain accurate and complete laboratory records
- Support operational excellence and patient safety initiatives
Skills Required for the Lab Technician Role:
- Strong knowledge of GMP, CLIA, and laboratory SOPs
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Ability to analyze data and resolve testing deviations
- Proficiency with laboratory instruments and computer systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
- Comfort working with blood-borne pathogens while using PPE
