Educational Requirements for the Laboratory Technician:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related scientific discipline
  • 1–2 years of experience in a microbiology laboratory
  • Laboratory safety and WHMIS training

Key Responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician:

  • Perform microbiological testing accurately and efficiently on incoming samples
  • Register and log samples; maintain accurate daily laboratory records
  • Enter sample data into Eurofins eLIMS in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, AOAC ALACC, and regulatory requirements
  • Follow Quality Manual, SOPs, local work instructions, and approved methods
  • Verify test results and submit findings for reporting within turnaround timelines
  • Identify non-conformances and out-of-specification results
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, safety, and readiness at all times
  • Assist with troubleshooting and basic instrument maintenance
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and internal teams
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and adoption of new technologies
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required

Skills Required for the Laboratory Technician:

  • Strong knowledge of microbiology laboratory techniques and aseptic practices
  • Experience in handling and preparing microbiological samples
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and maintenance
  • Attention to detail and strong documentation skills
