Educational Requirements for the Laboratory Technician:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related scientific discipline
- 1–2 years of experience in a microbiology laboratory
- Laboratory safety and WHMIS training
Key Responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician:
- Perform microbiological testing accurately and efficiently on incoming samples
- Register and log samples; maintain accurate daily laboratory records
- Enter sample data into Eurofins eLIMS in a timely and accurate manner
- Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, AOAC ALACC, and regulatory requirements
- Follow Quality Manual, SOPs, local work instructions, and approved methods
- Verify test results and submit findings for reporting within turnaround timelines
- Identify non-conformances and out-of-specification results
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, safety, and readiness at all times
- Assist with troubleshooting and basic instrument maintenance
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and internal teams
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and adoption of new technologies
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
Skills Required for the Laboratory Technician:
- Strong knowledge of microbiology laboratory techniques and aseptic practices
- Experience in handling and preparing microbiological samples
- Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and maintenance
