Internship Program Overview
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program provides students with hands-on industry experience over a 10–12 week period. Interns gain insight into pharmaceutical and biotechnology processes while contributing to meaningful, value-added projects alongside experienced professionals.
Department Overview – Biologics
The Research and Early Development (RED) team focuses on discovering and advancing innovative therapies for rare genetic conditions. The Biologics group within RED is responsible for developing purification processes and conducting characterization for therapeutic protein candidates. The group supports programs requiring proteins as therapeutic agents or components of therapeutic candidates.
Project Description
The intern will support efforts to optimize strategies aimed at increasing therapeutic protein purification throughput.
Required Skills
- Strong organizational skills and commitment to accurate record-keeping
- Proactive and collaborative attitude with willingness to learn new scientific techniques
- Prior exposure to protein purification techniques and equipment
Desired Skills
- Experience with SDS-PAGE
- Ability to quickly learn and operate new laboratory equipment
Qualifications & Eligibility
- Undergraduate student in the 3rd or 4th year pursuing a degree in a scientific discipline
- Must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week)
- Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S.-based university or college and enrolled in the fall term following completion of the internship, or have graduated within one year of the program start date
- Must be able to relocate if necessary and work on-site for the duration of the internship
