About the Company

Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, is a global biotechnology leader advancing innovative therapeutics that improve lives worldwide. Through science-driven innovation, Genentech careers empower professionals and interns to collaborate across disciplines, ensuring safe and effective medicines for patients across the globe.

Internship Details:

  • Intern Title: Translational Safety: Product Quality & Occupational Toxicology 2026 Summer Intern
  • Company: Genentech (Roche)
  • Job ID: 202512-132024
  • Job Type: Temporary (Fixed Term)
  • Schedule: Full Time (40 hours/week)
  • Location: South San Francisco, CA (On-Site)

Department Overview

Translational Safety delivers integrated, risk-based assessments that support the rapid development of transformative therapeutics. The Product Quality and Occupational Toxicology (PQOT) team protects both patients and workers by establishing health-based exposure limits and conducting toxicology-driven risk assessments across the drug lifecycle—from early discovery through commercialization.

PQOT partners cross-functionally to support:

  • Health-Based Exposure Limits (HBELs)
  • Acceptable Daily Exposures (ADEs)
  • Toxicology-Based Limits (TBLs)
  • Extractables & Leachables assessments
  • Occupational exposure limits and safety documentation

Paid Molecular Biology internship Overview

This internship focuses on understanding how Acceptable Daily Exposures (ADEs) for small molecule therapeutics are derived early in development when data are limited. You will work closely with PQOT toxicologists to curate and analyze historical datasets, identify trends across compound classes and mechanisms of action, and build a database that informs early-stage safety decision-making.

This role provides hands-on exposure to toxicology, data analysis, and risk-based frameworks used in pharmaceutical development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and curate a database of small molecule attributes and safety characteristics
  • Analyze historical toxicology data to identify trends across compound classes, mechanisms of action, and therapeutic areas
  • Support early-stage risk assessments and default safety recommendations for new compounds
  • Participate in scientific discussions that influence early safety guidance
