About the Kasimatis Lab:
The Kasimatis Lab investigates the evolutionary genomics of sexual conflict, focusing on how recombination rates differ between sexes and how recombination suppression contributes to early sex chromosome evolution. Research Focus & Responsibilities for the Research Associate Role:
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will:
- Investigate sex-specific recombination rate variation in natural and experimental populations
- Study recombination suppression and sex chromosome formation
- Design and execute experimental evolution studies
- Perform CRISPR/Cas9 genetic engineering in nematodes
- Conduct genomic and molecular biology experiments in this Research Associate Role.
- Use microscopy and phenotypic analysis techniques
- Analyze and manage complex biological datasets
- Mentor and train undergraduate research students
- Contribute to publications, presentations, and collaborative projects
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Biology or a related field, completed by the start date
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience working with Caenorhabditis nematodes
- Experience in basic laboratory and molecular biology techniques
- Proficiency in microscopy
- Strong conceptual background in Sexual conflict biology, Evolutionary genetics, and Recombination biology
- Demonstrated expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and data management
- Strong publication record appropriate to career stage
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior trainees
- Evidence of independence, creativity, and collaborative research skills
