Research Officer Role Overview
The Research Officer will support the BRIDGE program, a consortium of not-for-profit organisations led by the Kirby Institute. The program focuses on designing and conducting clinical development programs for RNA therapeutics at or above TRL3, targeting unmet clinical needs in infection, inflammation, and oncology.
The role involves a combination of research, operational, and administrative responsibilities. The Research Officer will contribute to protocol and SOP development, support preclinical research, manage data handling and quality checks, and assist with laboratory and project coordination tasks.
The position works closely with research and program teams to ensure studies are conducted rigorously, documentation remains accurate and up to date, and program activities are delivered efficiently in compliance with regulatory, ethical, and institutional requirements.
The role reports to the Senior Project Manager – BRIDGE and has no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development and maintenance of study protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in preclinical research activities, including data handling and quality checks.
- Perform laboratory and project coordination tasks.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation.
- Collaborate with research and program teams to ensure efficient study execution.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, ethical, and institutional standards.
Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in biomedical science, life sciences, biotechnology, or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting laboratory or preclinical research activities with adherence to established protocols.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, or working with SOPs, protocols, and research documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, organised records.
- Familiarity with research compliance requirements, including ethics, governance, and safety frameworks.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage competing priorities.
