Educational Requirements for Research Services Professional role:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related field
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Relevant laboratory experience preferred but not required
  • Combination of education and technical experience may substitute for degree requirements

Key Responsibilities for Research Services Professional role:

  • Develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques (60% of work)
  • Coordinate human subjects sample collection and study visits
  • Perform experiments: flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, RNA/protein isolation, qRT-PCR, western blotting
  • Use transcriptomic and proteomic approaches for research analysis
  • Maintain meticulous records in electronic laboratory notebooks (40% of work)
  • Order and inventory lab supplies, maintain equipment, and ensure lab compliance
  • Assist Principal Investigator in managing finances and regulatory compliance
  • Participate in lab meetings, local research network coordination, and manuscript preparation
  • Mentor and teach other lab members and students

Skills Required for Research Services Professional role:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and safety procedures
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Organizational, analytical, and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments
  • Understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills
