About the Scientist Job Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a Medical Scientist to join the Malignant Hyperthermia Diagnostic Unit (MHDU) within the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management.
The MHDU provides specialised diagnostic testing and expert clinical advice to individuals and healthcare professionals across Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania who may be at risk of Malignant Hyperthermia, a rare but life-threatening condition.
In this role, you will:
- Perform specialised diagnostic testing
- Support laboratory quality and accreditation
- Contribute to clinical research and service improvement
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-vitro contracture testing for the diagnosis of Malignant Hyperthermia
- Maintain laboratory records, databases, and stock control systems
- Participate in quality assurance activities, including EMHG accreditation requirements
- Act as a key contact for external referrals and triage to appropriate clinicians
- Contribute to departmental quality improvement initiatives
- Support and participate in clinical research activities
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within RMH and external MH services
About You
You are a motivated, detail-oriented scientist with a strong interest in specialised diagnostic medicine and a willingness to develop expertise in a rare and critical clinical field.
Essential Qualifications & Skills For Scientist Jobs
- Bachelor of Science (Hons), Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons), or equivalent
- Master’s or PhD highly desirable
- Strong laboratory skills and sound scientific methodology
- Well-developed communication and problem-solving abilities
- Competence using databases, spreadsheets, and electronic medical records
- Willingness to learn and contribute to quality and research initiatives
