Experience
- Requires a bachelor degree (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology/Biomedical engineering or other related disciplines with equivalent knowledge and experience) or appropriate work experience with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing/lab environment. Experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment preferred.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.
- Previous experience with enterprise resource planning software, sales management systems and document control applications preferred.
- Experience and understanding of formulations required.
- Must be a self-starter, have excellent time management and organization skills, a high degree of work quality, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
Position Objective
This function ensures a timely and accurate setup of new products to be produced in a pilot manufacturing lab setting. This individual will work under tight deadlines to ensure that customer expectations are met on time and in full. The Scientist I is responsible for the production of Batch Records for Assemble to Order and Make to Order custom media orders. The Scientist I will be responsible to review other GME Scientists work to provide quality peer reviews. The candidate’s work will also be reviewed by other GME Scientists. The role will focus on liquid and dry powder media formats. The Scientist I will be able to support batch record creation of repeat AGT orders. The candidate for the position will have the potential to develop into roles that support more complex batch record creation (Engineer to Order) and to conduct benchtop feasibility lab work. The Scientist I will work closely with other GME Scientists (feasibility), SKU coordinator, product management office and the global costing, procurement, compliance and regulatory affairs groups.
Essential Functions
- Assess the feasibility of inquiries for small-scale, pre-clinical, non-GMP catalogue and custom cell culture media/supplements/reagents produced through various unit operations.
- Design and develop new custom media formulation instructions using applied knowledge of Biochemistry/Organic Chemistry/Cell Biology/Biotechnology or Biomedical engineering.
- Develop batch master records/work instructions to allow the conversion of raw materials to finished goods in the production of media formulations.
- Support and engage in the transfer of technology and media products in various formats to associated manufacturing sites and networks.
- This position is engaged in sustaining and growing our business through inquiry feasibility, inquiry to quote conversion, customer interaction to provide technical support or to ensure achievement of expectations, and in the development of process instructions for each unique media formulation.
- Issue primary feasibility assessments of non-GMP custom cell culture media formulations and conduct process development.\
- Develop process/product specifications to achieve the highest quality in production.
Make detailed observations and conduct data analysis in support of product and process quality. - Maintain accurate notebooks/files in accordance with Media Network standards. Advise management teams of factors that may affect quality, accuracy and usefulness of data, and interpret experimental results.
- Identify and solve elementary problems in experimental designs.
Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve cell culture media manufacturing processes and techniques to improve protocols, processes and equipment. - Engage in high-performance work teams to sustain a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and productivity.
- Comply with all company safety, quality, and training procedures and regulations.
Report all non-compliance and support, engage in, and potentially lead teams assigned to making improvements. - May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

- This position supports custom business revenue through new product design/development and the revision of existing products to meet customer requirements/applications.
- The ability to achieve these objectives within established service level agreements, as well as during times of expedited service, is critical to success in this role.
- Possess the theoretical/practical fundamental concepts and procedures of designing cell culture media and chemical formulations; continuous professional development of technical expertise through experience, training, and application.
