Life in Research & Development (R&D)
As an R&D intern at Mondelēz International, the individual will take ownership of real projects from day one and contribute to innovation with the consumer at the heart of every decision. Responsibilities may include producing technical reports and presentations, sharing insights with stakeholders, and collaborating across the wider RDQ community, business functions, and external suppliers. In some cases, occasional international travel may be required.
About the Role
This internship provides hands-on experience in food innovation, allowing the intern to work alongside experienced food scientists and product developers. The role offers exposure to the full product development lifecycle, supporting innovation, product quality, productivity, and sustainability across global and regional teams.
Within the Productivity Team, the intern will contribute to researching next-generation technologies, including new ingredients and processes, to drive cost optimization and efficiency across Mondelēz’s three core product categories. The role involves building pipelines and identifying opportunities to apply solutions globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new and existing chocolate products for Mondelēz’s leading brands
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Consumer Science & Insights, Procurement, Manufacturing, Ingredient Research, and Technical Experts
- Gain hands-on product development experience from concept and design through kitchen, pilot plant, and factory trials
- Study ingredient functionality and interactions to identify opportunities for optimization and sustainability
- Apply scientific methods and technical rigor to solve complex research challenges
- Conduct hypothesis-driven experimentation, interpret results, and provide future product recommendations
- Create or update specifications and prepare technical reports and presentations
- Submit samples for analysis, organize sample shipments, and conduct shelf-life testing
- Communicate findings clearly to project stakeholders
Candidate Requirements for Biochemistry Internship
Education
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, or another scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry)
- Predicted degree classification of 2:1 or equivalent
