Elibiglity Criteria & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in policy, animal/natural sciences or related technical field
  • Minimum of 1+ years of professional work experience.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in policy, animal / natural sciences, or a related technical discipline
  • 3+ years of regulatory experience, preferably with completing official regulatory documentation
  • Pet Food industry experience or technical background in: Regulatory Science, Quality Assurance, Product Development, Laboratory Sciences, veterinary/animal clinic experience, or similar work experience.
  • Ability to focus on detail while meeting critical timelines
  • Ability to read, speak and write a second language a plus

Job Summary

  • The Regulatory Affairs Specialist will work to provide support in regulatory-related product life-cycle review activities, preparation of regulatory and registry documentation, and ensuring compliance with all regulations and statutes during the development, manufacture, and sale of Hill’s Pet Nutrition products.
  • They will develop a growing regulatory understanding to provide support and guidance on regulatory requirements processes and activities for the governance of pet food.
  • The role supports regulatory-related activities, including, but not limited to: regulatory intelligence gathering, international and domestic regulatory submissions, ingredient review and approval, labeling, and claims. They will also gain general regulatory knowledge and experience that will serve to create an expanded understanding of how Regulatory Affairs supports the business and the regulations around pet food in general.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete ingredient reviews to ensure compliance with domestic and international ingredient requirements for pet food
  • Support Regulatory on internal ingredient teams such as the Hill’s Ingredient Team, Procurement/Implementation & Support Team, and special projects as needed.
  • Work with colleagues such as International Regulatory Affairs, Contract Manufacturing Science & Technology (S&T), Marketing, Procurement, and Quality to provide support in areas such as applications/regulatory status of different ingredients.
  • Support Quality in qualifying ingredient suppliers and performing document audit
  • Support domestic product registration to ensure complete, accurate, compliant, and timely submissions of licensing and product registration.
  • Coordinate with Global Regulatory and both internal and external partners to support registration documentation for international registration.
  • Maintain regulatory files and electronic databases and develop SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) and Work Instructions in order to maintain standardization for regulatory processes and guidance.
  • Track and report the status of assigned regulatory activities and functions
  • Develop general industry regulatory knowledge, including working knowledge of AAFCO, FDA, and relevant international regulations and guidelines that affect the pet food industry.
  • Maintain regulatory files and electronic databases.

  • Develops proficiency in SAP, PDM, Impira, Regulatory Tracking System, and other systems to support regulatory activities
  • Participate as a team member on assigned projects: contribute to meetings as assigned to discuss and support the development of regulatory strategies and support projects that contribute to further professionalization of the regulatory environment in the company.
  • Assemble and help communicate information relative to product changes, new product attributes, and current go-to-market information and timing.
  • Challenge established ways of doing things and recommend improvements
