Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Takeda’s summer internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The summer internship program is 12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Compensation is competitive, and financed temporary housing is available to those who qualify. Our internship program also provides you with the opportunity to network with people at Takeda through various planned events and activities.

Upstream process development work is focused on delivering robust and consistent processes for the manufacture of therapeutic proteins. One area of interest for our team is the increased implementation of process modelling to improve process control, prediction, and robustness. The intern will assist in the development of a model to estimate and predict cell culture performance.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The Upstream Process Development Intern will be responsible for supporting process modelling efforts for the development of cell culture processes used for the manufacture of therapeutic proteins. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of upstream process development team members to gain a better understanding of mammalian cell culture processes. The intern will gain experiences with process modelling and data analysis and contribute to major innovation efforts in the department. During this process, the intern will document data and procedures, perform data analysis, present on findings, and participate in team meetings.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. accredited university for the semester before and immediately following the internship.
  • Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree and have completed at least their sophomore year or be a graduate-level student pursuing either a PharmD or Master’s degree
  • For Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students, a major in chemical engineering, biological engineering, or something similar is preferred.
  • A strong mathematical and modelling background is preferred
  • Familiarity with Matlab is preferred
