Takeda’s summer internship program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The summer internship program is between 10 -12 weeks in length and offers a unique perspective into a world-class pharmaceutical company. Compensation is competitive, and financed temporary housing is available to those who qualify. The QC Microbiology intern will work closely with QC Microbiology team leadership as part of a contamination control team that will be responsible for execution of microbial risk assessments of products and processes manufactured at Takeda Thousand Oaks. You will gain experience in pharmaceutical Quality Risk Management (QRM) and microbial control strategies which are essential for aseptic pharmaceutical manufacturing processing. You will be given specific tasks to support the cross functional team with execution of the microbial risk assessments. You will learn the manufacturing processes and contamination controls currently in place and help the team assess if further controls should be implemented. You will have the opportunity to work with team members from QC Microbiology, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Engineering and Validation.

- The ideal candidate exhibits strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills; he or she also possesses the ability to work well in teams, effectively manage multiple projects, and present ideas clearly and concisely.
Intern Project Summary:
Assist in the facilitation and execution of product and process microbial risk assessments for Takeda Thousand Oaks drug substance and drug product manufacturing processes. The risk assessment tool, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), will be used to evaluate the contamination control risks at Takeda Thousand Oaks. Identify microbial hazards and current controls in place for each process step of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes at Takeda Thousand Oaks. Help identify contamination controls that can be implemented to reduce microbial risks in Takeda TO production processes. Work with cross-functional team members to implement contamination controls. Contribute to project plans, established timelines and deliverables and tracking and driving completion of action items.
Department Overview:
QC Microbiology performs microbial testing of site utilities, raw materials, in-process and final product samples to ensure product quality and safety. QC Microbiology also develops the microbial control strategy for the site and leads the contamination control program for the site. Department currently consists of approximately 12 team members including 1 Department Head, 1 supervisor and 10 lab analysts.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- Enrolled in a U.S. accredited university for the semester before and immediately following the internship
- Authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without sponsorship in the future
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree and have completed at least their sophomore year or be a graduate level student pursuing either a PharmD or master’s degree; for Bachelor’s and
- Master’s degree students, a major in a healthcare, pharmacy or life science field is preferred
- Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0
