Overview

The R&D Ops & Measurement Sciences Associate Scientist is part of the R&D Measurement Sciences team, focused on generating, interpreting, and communicating high-quality analytical data to support regulatory and quality programs. This role primarily supports regulatory testing of snack and convenience food products in North America, with a strong focus on LC/MS analysis and associated laboratory processes.

The position is based at PepsiCo’s Global R&D facility in Plano, TX, and reports to the Regulatory Testing Team Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory analyses using LC/MS in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Interpret chromatographic and mass spectrometry data; calculate and report results accurately
  • Document test data in LIMS (LabVantage) and communicate results within established turnaround times
  • Review data, identify chromatographic interferences, perform sample retests, and conduct control charting and trend analysis
  • Lead or support special projects to optimize regulatory testing processes and reduce turnaround time
  • Maintain equipment and quality records following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on LC/MS instruments and related equipment
  • Support sample preparation including grinding, weighing, and automated prep systems
  • Prepare chemicals, solutions, dilutions, and maintain laboratory readiness
  • Manage laboratory supplies and organize or purge samples as required
  • Adhere to safety procedures, PPE requirements, and site policies
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (scientists, engineers, technicians, management) to ensure accurate testing
  • Communicate with external vendors to troubleshoot and optimize analytical instruments
  • Develop and integrate digital workflows to improve testing efficiency and data storage/security
  • Integrate LabVantage functionality into MS regulatory testing processes

Qualifications for Research Jobs

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, or a related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory environment
  • Strong foundation in analytical chemistry
  • Proven attention to detail and data integrity
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet testing timelines
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and lab safety procedures
  • Experience handling hazardous chemicals safely
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, graphs, and tables
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

  • Hands-on experience with LC/MS operation and methodology
  • Experience using MassHunter software
  • Background in food and beverage testing
  • Experience with LabVantage LIMS

Compensation & Benefits Of Research Jobs

  • Salary Range: $64,300 – $107,650 (based on location, experience, education, and skills)
