A managing role providing direction to a team of animal care technicians. Responsible for the daily oversight of a non-GLP preclinical laboratory. Will set departmental operational procedures to ensure delivery of business objectives. Responsible for establishing, directing and providing strategic, tactical and scientific leadership to the area. To be a collaborating front-facing resource to a diverse group of in vivo scientists, facility specialists, vendors, and support functions.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with a life science major
  • 3+ years experience as a line manager
  • Immunocompromised animal health management experience
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be flexible, lead by example, and hold accountable.
  • Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environment legislation, and other relevant regulations
  • Fluent in verbal and written communication skills (English)

Desirable

  • Membership of a professional organizations
  • LATG/CMAR certification

Typical Accountabilities:

  • Manages a team to deliver exceptional animal care and technical support in a rodent animal facility with a focus on enhancing animal welfare and increasing operational efficiency.
  • Manages a team, taking responsibility for team performance and individual contribution to team objectives. Lead and manage the performance and development of staff by agreeing and contributing to clear objectives and development targets. Conduct regular reviews, ensuring staff is well managed, motivated, and productive in accordance with the highest professional standards.
  • Demonstrates ability to form cross-functional teams, conducts briefings and scientific meetings for internal and external representatives.
  • Deliver regular feedback on staff and facility contributions to department senior leadership.
  • Ensure staff is trained appropriately to ensure all animal use is conducted at the highest standard.
  • Organize and plan the workload of the team and overview global alignment resources.
  • Anticipates and resolves cross-team problems offering solutions and managing risk.
  • Supports Company and department changes. Key role in performing risk management and business continuity evaluations. May be requested to assist in disaster planning and execution of the plan in the event of an emergency.
  • Developing and documenting operational processes and workflows, including preparing and reviewing written job aids and operational procedure guides.
  • Responsible for procuring, managing, and distributing of supplies, animals, and resources.
  • Serves as IT system expert of animal management systems, purchasing software, and document repositories.
  • Acts as a technical owner of all major equipment. May be required to routinely operate equipment and provide training.
  • Assists in the implementation of new methodology and technology related to own area of expertise, including by training staff.
  • Drives scientific innovation through personal leadership and appropriate management of team members.
  • Keeps customers informed of relevant work or changes that will affect their assets or their ability to do their jobs, working with the customer to minimize the impact of the changes and appropriately plan wider Facilities Management activities.
  • Takes responsibility for customer comments, problems, and feedback on a particular asset or service, exploring the complaint, generating solutions, and ensuring satisfactory resolution quickly and effectively.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of AAALAC Program Description and during site visits.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of technical advances of potential benefit to the business, in the broad area of expertise.
  • Demonstrates scientific or professional leadership through internal and/or external presentations and peer-review publications.
  • Ensures decisions are consistent with agreed project timelines, budgets and overarching business goals.
  • Ensures own work, and the work of the whole team, is performed in accordance with appropriate Home Office guidelines/legislation and Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Standards (GLS), SOP’s, AZ Codes of Practice.
