They are hiring an Optimization Product Development Lab Technician in Boston, MA. The Optimization Product Development Lab Technician will be responsible for executing all necessary daily functions for a high-performing product development lab. Working alongside the Optimization Product Developers, this role will include preparing and bottling prototypes for new and existing products, analyzing and compiling data to develop specs, and maintaining a clean and highly functional product development laboratory. The person will also assist with preparing comprehensive reports on finished projects for the quality and product development groups. Must be 21+

Job Title: Optimization Product Development Technician – Boston – (210000NE)

Education Required:

Bachelor of Sciences degree, preferably in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Fermentation Science or Engineering

Experience Required:

  • 1+ years of Product Development or Quality lab experience (brewing, beverage, or food manufacturing industry preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required
  • Report writing and good communication skills is required
  • Proven ability to work in a flexible and changing schedule

Desired:

Experience in food science, sensory analysis, R&D settings is a plus

Essential Responsibilities:

Ingredient & Process Optimization bench blending / trials:

  • Ingredient and/or process adjustments to new and existing recipes for process efficiencies in production
  • Execute accurate and high-quality blends of recipes outlined by Product Development team
  • Assist in collection and review of data for all blends in preparation for recipe transition to production
  • Tracking of recipe adjustments made throughout timeline with corresponding sensory notes
  • Package and distribute samples for evaluation and approval – internal/external sensory testing
  • Foster relationships with the product development and brewing teams
  • Attend regular updates with the Optimization Product Development team on the status of open projects
  • Foster relationships with ingredient suppliers and order new ingredients for upcoming projects

Lab Maintenance:

  • Flavor library – managing flavor/ingredient inventory for current products and new ingredients
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures for all new and established processes without a defined system
  • Oversee the upkeep and general maintenance of blending lab instrumentation
  • Responsible for maintaining the inventory of key lab supplies such as glassware, pipettes tips, and bulk ingredients
  • Responsible for GMP & Lab Maintenance/Upkeep

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Special analysis request/projects per Brewing and Quality staff
  • Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Physical requirements: Ability to lift at least 30 pounds (1 case of beer). Ability to stand for long periods of time (8-hour workday). Age 21+ Working conditions: Primarily stationed in the BBC Breweries
