BJC HealthCare is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II) to join the Point of Care Laboratory team. This role is integral to delivering precise, reliable laboratory results that positively impact patient outcomes.
Scientist Job Role Purpose
The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II performs specimen processing and routine to complex testing on blood and other specimens. The role requires knowledge of quality control, instrument maintenance, testing methodologies, and reference ranges, while maintaining appropriate documentation and demonstrating good clinical laboratory practices.
Responsibilities
- Operate laboratory instrumentation to deliver precise, timely, and accurate results
- Perform testing and equipment operation to ensure high-quality laboratory outcomes
- Train new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures, and equipment usage
- Perform quality control and troubleshoot instrumentation issues
- Assess technical or instrument problems and determine appropriate corrective actions
- Accurately report and document patient test results in the laboratory information system
- Meet published turnaround times for routine and STAT testing
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and quality activities
Duties – Point of Care
- Operate and maintain Point of Care testing equipment
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient results and quality control
- Maintain compliance with regulatory bodies, including CAP and The Joint Commission
- Manage equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and coordinate training and competency assessments
- Act as a liaison between the laboratory and clinical staff, particularly nursing
- Provide support for on-site inspections and audits
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, or related field
