Job Description Summary

Bel Brands USA, manufacturers of world-renowned Laughing Cow Cheese and Mini Baby Bel Cheese, is seeking a quality Intern interested in food manufacturing quality and laboratory work.  The intern will join our quality team to help ensure production of safe and high-quality products that drive our growth vision and achieve our company objectives. This is an exciting opportunity for a rewarding experience that will help grow the incumbent’s career through participating in hands-on quality and laboratory technology experiences, with direct impact to the business!

At Bel, you are in control of your own internship growth plan. Together with your mentor, you have flexibility in tailoring an internship program based on your work experience, area of study, personal interests and the needs of the business. The program will provide real world experience in your field of study.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists Lead Lab Technicians in completing daily tasks.
  • May occasionally lead shift meetings and draft technical documents for approval.
  • Collects analytical, microbiological, sensory, raw material receiving, storage areas and any other samples for pre-operation, in-process and finished product testing.
  • Prepares media, sterile sampling, equipment and testing supplies.
  • Performs titration testing relating to sanitation chemical concentrations in production areas.
  • Performs periodic testing relating to sanitation effectiveness in production areas.
  • Performs required tests, compares results against specifications, and provides required test result documentation.
  • Conducts air sampling in production areas.
  • Performs verification of product, labels and packaging. Verifies correct labels, weight, ease of package opening, package sealing, date and date format, correct product, master cases, legibility of printing, any additional packaging.
  • Performs statistical calculations relating to test data.  Enters test data into the electronic data systems such as Quartz, Excel, and other data management as required. Analyzes test results for trends.
  • Maintains all related documents for analytical, Process, sensory, microbiological and any other testing.
  • Reports results to production and quality management.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy
  • Follows all Safety rules & procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others
  • Follows all food safety procedures
  • Follows all environmental protocols as applicable to job to prevent pollution to air, land or water
  • Follows all sanitation procedures and work instructions
  • Follows all continuous improvement actions and rules and best practices
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Minimum degree and experience:

  • Undergraduate student in Agriculture (Dairy Science), Chemistry, Microbiology, or related major.
  • 3.0 or above Cumulative GPA strongly preferred

  • Highly knowledgeable in how to use Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to climb ladders

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available for a 16-week internship program at our Leitchfield, KY facility
  • Must be reliable
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of a 24-hour operation facility
  • Able to work in a facility where milk products are present
  • Sponsorship for work visas not available
