Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree
- 0–1 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct experiments related to the molecular basis of breast and ovarian cancer
- Assist with translational research supporting new therapies and clinical trials in the Research Jobs at the University of Pennsylvania
- Perform autoradiography for radiotracer evaluation and radiotherapy programs
- Support experiments using human samples and animal model systems, including animal care documentation in the Research Specialist Role
- Assist senior lab members in coordinating undergraduate assistants
- Participate in scientific discussions and contribute to data analysis and interpretation
- Perform molecular and genetic experiments, including cell culture, reagent preparation, RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and next-generation sequencing
- Maintain laboratory organization, inventories, and order supplies
- As a Research Specialist, you should maintain accurate research documentation and communicate findings at lab meetings
- Support patient-derived xenograft programs and perform additional duties as assigned
Skills Required:
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills
- Ability to work independently and meet predetermined deadlines
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Experience or interest in molecular biology and biochemical techniques
- Familiarity with cell culture, protein extraction, and gel electrophoresis techniques
- Willingness to broaden research experience and learn advanced laboratory methods
- Experience with animal models or radiopharmaceuticals is a plus, but not required
