R&D Discovery / Translational Research Scientist Intern (Undergraduate/Graduate) 2022 Summer Intern (Oncology TA)

Job Description

As a summer intern in the Oncology Discovery or Translational Research department you will be a member of a team dedicated to the research and development of new therapeutics. The successful applicants will be assigned a scientific mentor and have the opportunity to conduct research in our prostate cancer, lung cancer, hematologic malignancies or immuno-oncology teams. Each intern will have their own project developed jointly with their mentor and will be expected to present the results of their work at the end of the internship. The goal of the program is to provide undergraduate students experience in working in large pharmaceutical R&D and to gain a basic understanding of the science of novel drug development. Each intern will have the opportunity to learn new aspects of disease biology and ways to identify novel therapeutics and/or determine the mechanism of action behind emerging drugs. Students will also receive detailed training on the technology platforms (e.g., ELISA, PCR, DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, cell culture, cell-based assays) and analytical methods required for their project. This role involves extensive team matrix interactions with colleagues from a number of different disciplines.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Participating in department and team meetings
  • Data collection and recording keeping
  • Shadowing key functional roles for learning/development opportunities
  • Assisting with interpretation, reporting, and preparation of oral and written results of product research, in concert with senior clinical personnel
  • Review of literature and related new technologies
  • Other projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate college students with completion of a minimum of four semesters
  • Must have experience or pursuing a degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, or similar fields
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Graduate students must be pursuing a master’s or a PhD degree
  • Working knowledge of the use of Microsoft suite of software products including Excel and Word
