Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Key Responsibilities for Biorepository Associate Role:

  • Recruit patients for Biorepository participation in clinical research studies
  • Obtain informed consent and explain study procedures and confidentiality
  • Screen medical records and abstract relevant data for oncology research
  • Coordinate blood draws and process samples, including Ficoll separation
  • Maintain databases correlating samples with patient medical information
  • Perform long-term follow-up and request ongoing medical data
  • Act as a liaison between UC San Diego Health researchers and the community
  • Ensure strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and NCI guidelines

Skills Required for Biorepository Associate Role:

  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures, oncology, and medical terminology
  • Experience handling biospecimens in a clinical research environment
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in computer applications, databases, and word processing
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Understanding of IRB and HIPAA regulations for Biorepository research
